For a birthday, a colourful bouquet is still the safest bet: seasonal flowers, bold shades and a handwritten note. We compared six online florists delivering across Switzerland, with the budgets and lead times you need to know.
No colours are off limits for a birthday. So we go for bold shades and whatever the season offers when you place the order.
Available all year round and easy to send at any age.
The most generous season for light, fresh colours.
Broader blooms and warmer tones.
The format matters as much as the variety you pick.
We looked at bouquet style, delivery times and coverage across Switzerland. Kanel takes first place for this occasion.
Our top pick for a birthday: this French-speaking Swiss studio arranges its seasonal bouquets by hand, with express delivery within a few hours in Geneva and Lausanne, then next-day delivery elsewhere in Switzerland. Promo code FABIEN10 for 10% off.
FABIEN10, 10 % offA long-standing flower relay network dating back to 1946, with thousands of partner florists and nationwide and international coverage. The bouquet’s style depends on the florist filling the order, so the colourful result can vary from one city to the next.
A grand, upmarket Geneva house with almost two centuries behind it, at ease with signature arrangements, weddings and events. A good instinct for a milestone birthday or a tall arrangement, far less so for a small-budget send.
Another giant of the flower relay world: a very wide catalogue, worldwide delivery and gift add-ons such as chocolates or balloons. Handy for wishing someone a happy birthday abroad, with the same caveat about consistency of style.
A polished French-speaking Swiss service, from arranging to delivery, with good value for money across the canton of Vaud. Its reach stays regional: best kept for birthdays celebrated in that area rather than for distant sends.
The small-budget option: artisan bouquets at gentle prices delivered in French-speaking Switzerland. The choice is narrower and large formats for a milestone birthday are less obvious here, but the thought comes across perfectly well.
The right bouquet changes with the delivery address and the age being celebrated. Here are the cases people ask us about most.
Delivery to the office. Sending to the office works well on a working day: someone is there to take the bouquet in and the surprise is shared with colleagues. Keep to a size that travels, because the person has to get it home. At the weekend, go for the home address instead and give a wide delivery window.
A 30th, 40th or 50th. A milestone birthday deserves a more visible gesture. We suggest a more generous bouquet or a tall arrangement, which holds its own on a celebration table. Budget for the top of the range, closer to CHF 90 than CHF 45, and check the delivery charges quoted.
You remember on the morning itself. Nothing is lost: same-day delivery is still possible if the order goes out in the morning. Kanel handles express delivery within a few hours in Geneva and Lausanne, then next-day delivery elsewhere in Switzerland. Write the card straight away, even just two lines, rather than putting the whole thing off.
